My latest novelette, “Recall Notice”, is on Amazon Kindle as a stand-alone ebook!
Eddie's had a rough thirteen months. He's been cursed by a gypsy, assigned his own sister as his court appointed witch, and is up to his neck in community service. When he picks up a new client, his luck finally changes — for the worse. Can this PI turned black cat navigate a world of friendly zombies, orcish goons, and bad luck by the crate to somehow save the day?
I’m really excited about this one. It’s a side project I’ve been working on for a while.
A few months back, I wrote “Recall Notice” as a short story intended for the Moggie Noir anthology from
. It ended up going almost twice as long as they were looking for. The folks at Rac Press are willing to take a longer story, but that felt like it was pushing it. Rather than try to hack it in half, I decided to publish it as a stand-alone story on Amazon. Because it was a moggie noir story, I figured I’d do my best to put it out at the same time Rac Press published their anthology.Along the way, I started talking to Lizz Yarbrough about doing some interior illustrations for the story. Her strange, whimsical style was a perfect fit for this off-beat bit of humor. I ended up using four of her illustrations as chapter headers, and they turned out really well.
Moggie Noir went live today, so I smashed the publish button for “Recall Notice” too. It looks like I must have gotten the keywords right, because when you search for “moggie noir” on Amazon, this is what pops up:
Success! Even better: both covers are by
. I love that - completely unintentionally - Amazon puts the two ladies back to back, ready for trouble.Seriously. I couldn’t have asked for a better launch than this.
Oh, and the “Book 1 of 1: AMP Shorts”? Yes, that’s an intentional pun; and yes, there will be more shorts like this coming from Alpha Merc Press, now that we’ve got a feel for it.
So if you like cursed cats, witches with a smouldering smile, and friendly Aussie zombies, pop on over to Amazon and pick up a copy of “Recall Notice” today!
