OK, this is not quite your normal update. A while back, I announced that my story, “Harrold of the Gods”, was going to appear in the online magazine ZNB Presents.
It’s that time!
“Harrold” will appear in ZNB Presents on May 15th. Do you want to catch this story of a funky crab and the woman who tolerates him hot off the metaphorical press? Well, you’re in luck! You can do so by throwing a mere $2 a month to ZNB Presents at the Zombies Need Brains Patreon.
What’s ZNB Presents, you might ask? Well, I have an answer for you!
This is Zombies Need Brains' own little magazine. Twice a month--on the 1st and the 15th--you'll get access to a new, original story. The stories will be selected from the ZNB Presents open calls, edited by the founder Joshua Palmatier himself.
At this tier, you'll get:
A new, original SF&F short story twice every month, selected from the short stories from the ZNB Presents open calls
The ebook compilation of the previous twenty-four stories, if you've been a patron for at least eight months of that year's cycle from July-June

If you don’t get Harrold now, you’re going to have to wait a couple of months to get the anthology of ZNB Presents Year Two. That’s actually a pretty good deal - I mean, twenty-four banger stories for under $20 bucks? Sign me up! If your Hipster Sense is tingling, though, and you want to read all these stories before they’re cool, you’ll have to hop over to the Patreon and chuck a few bucks at ZNB Presents.
Come on! Give it a shot. It’s what all the cool kids are doing, after all.
The Business of Writing
A mid-week update on my three major commitments: to write, to edit, and to read.
Do you know how much work it takes to do an anthology? I sure didn’t. Which is why I signed up for two of them at once, and why the Car Wars story still needs revisions.
On the plus side, I’ve thrown out contract to all the authors in the Tull anthologies. Which means I’m starting to turn the crank, answer questions, and so on. That’s a good feeling. Everything seems to be going well so far. We should have covers soon, as well!
Last but not least: novel outline. I am moving from “mulling it over” to “I need to start writing these things down”. One bit of advice that I think I may take from a gentleman in the WriterDojo is to start every section, chapter, etc. in my outline with a bullet point that simply says, “Rule of Cool”. Just a little reminder that I’m writing a story about Angels, Demons, and Men; and that life is better when your wizard can go riding into battle against a necromancer on his own reanimated T-Rex.
Other Stuff
Not much. The girls are heading home from college, life is good, and I’m getting to walk more now that the weather’s good. See you next week!
