Argh. Yes, I’ve lost count of how many good ideas went into the garbage chute of my poor short-term memory.
I'll get a good idea, enthuse about it to my wife, and the conversation inevitably follows this pattern:
"Did you write that down?"
"No..."
"GO WRITE THAT DOWN."
Yes. I bought a bunch of notebooks until I finally found the right sized one for me (not too large, I can carry it around, not too small for my handwriting) then I got in the habit of keeping it on me to jot down whatever came to my brain.
Definitely recommend.
They frequently vanish if I write them down. I look at them and no longer feel the enthusiasm.
The bowling analogy works for technical researchers/writers as well. With an even smaller audience that'll care or comprehend.
