By all means! I, er, acquired it from another gentleman, who obtained it from a Spanish Señora down on her luck, who in turn found it lying on a street in Madrid next to an oddly smug three-legged cat who only spoke Russian. Consider it yours!

Figure out what is the "man with a gun in hand" is for a given story.
Work out in the second draft why he did so -- unless it unfolds in the first draft.
