Good thing I'd had years of rejections that way and knew how to say "you're not even close to ready to talk about comics yet," In an encouraging manner that they would at least go out and try. I also got to tell them "Writers write. If you want to succeed, you have to leave the hobbyist attitude behind unless that's all you plan to do with it," then direct them to a bunch of resources to start networking with people who can help lift them up if they put the work in.
