I rarely have names when I start a story. I use variables: x, y, z, a, b, c. In my Roman stuff, I used Latin numbers as place holders for the soldiers. Which was interesting, because Romans actually used numbers to name their children -- actual upper class, too. This wasn't a slave naming convention.
Procerus's placeholder was Nones, which is actually the wrong case / spelling for Ninth. Tritius kept his name, which is the wrong case / spelling for Third. Hmm. I really have a problem with Latin word forms in Cloak and Stola.
And yeah, I had soldiers for all the other numbers from one to nine in bad Latin, and just didn't end up using all those characters.
I wish I could like this a hundred times.
