Review: "Blanket Fort" Coffee
"Coffee with an attitude. Roasted by people who just don't care anymore."
“This is not for the faint of heart.” That’s how the description of Blanket Fort coffee starts out. King Harv’s Imperial Coffees created the blend, inspired by the North Texas Troublemakers. These are folks who are - in their own words:
… a bunch of creative folk living in a Tiny Town in North Texas, and we're all about helping other creatives/authors achieve their goals. This space is to share ideas, share wins, share opportunities, support each other, and BE SILLY….
We're very much the Frat House for the University--there are great sources like Writer Dojo where you can learn the nuts and bolts. We're about the community and connections that can help you find info you need, hook you up with opportunities for learning, lift you when you're down, spread the word about your wins, and PAR-TAY when you DO THE WORK and start seeing results.
Disclaimer: I’m a member of the NTT group on Facebook. They’re an amazing collection of people associated with Raconteur Press. So what kind of coffee might they inspire? Inquiring minds want to know. As I have an inquiring mind - and like coffee of all sorts - I went ahead and ordered a pound.
It arrived quickly. Like, really quickly. Only took two days to get here from the great state of Florida. Shipping was free - as they say on their About page, “There are no shipping or handling charges, no matter how small or large your order is. The King has decreed it so.” Thank you, King!
Now - first cup and first impression.
Understand, I don't review coffee for a living, so I’m probably going to use all the wrong terms. But I’ll use them in all the right ways, so it should all balance out.
I am a bit of a coffee snob. I was in the Navy, so I will drink anything so long as it's hot and bitter. When I have my druthers, though, I really prefer a good dark roast without too much oil. At home, I like my coffee thick and rich, brewed to a consistency that my daughter refers to as "Satan's Bathwater".
Blanket Fort delivers. It seems a little lighter than what I usually brew, so I let it sit and steep in the French Press for a bit. It poured with a nice, rich, dark color. Very smooth, and not bitter at all. There was no real aftertaste - you can get that if the beans are roasted too long or burnt. So overall it was smooth and light, even when I let it sit for a while. I like my coffee black, but this blend strikes me as one that would do well in combination with a touch of milk or maybe even a little flavoring. The coffee itself has a light enough flavor that it wouldn't overpower a little something else.
On a scale of Spurgle (don’t ask) to Space Cowboys, I'd say this is a solid "good morning" cup worthy of any interstellar cowpoke or asteroid wrangler. Two completely regular, definitely not-three-raccoons-in-a-trench-coat, Human thumbs up on this one.

Now I can't wait until mine shows up! I did order espresso grind, so that will be fun to make up in my moka pot. A certain Fox mellows when given espresso.
