#TeamAndMore
Congratulations!
It’s been a minute, so there’s a lot to go through here! Let’s take some time to both recognize folks on #TeamAndMore, and the publishers who’ve helped make it all happen.
The final Postcards book, Last Call from Raconteur Press. Overall, they’ve published seven Postcards books, each with 20 stories. That’s 140 pieces of 50-word flash fiction across the series! On their author’s server, they mentioned that all told, they received over 800 submissions for this incredibly popular series.
Also from Raconteur, the anthology that gets my vote for the best title of the year, we have Space Cowboys 404: Cow Not Found, the fourth entry in their Space Cowboys series (and yes, it appears there will be a fifth!) With a collection of amazing stories, including one from Spearman Burke, this is one you’ll want to enjoy.
Finally from Raconteur (yeah, they’re busy over there!) we have He Was Dead When I Got There, their second third (thank you, Jonna!) entry in a series of stories about Andrew Spurgle, an incompetent buffoon who manages to screw everything up. While you may not know the real-life inspiration for Mr. Spurgle, chances are you’ve encountered one of his spiritual kin. Featuring a story by Team member Richard Cartwright, this anthology of stories where he gets creatively folded, spindled, and mutilated may get a chuckle or two out of you!
Just before the end of the year Three Ravens Publishingreleased Tales of the Apocalypse, which perhaps should have been Apocalypses (Apocalipsii?) because you actually get nearly a dozen of the darn things for your money. This anthology contains “Eleven stories of desperation, heroism, and strife sure to hook your imaginations.”
Three Ravens also released Blood, Sweat, and Steel: Tales of Future Combat and Mechanized Warfare. The premise reminds me of the fantastic There Will Be War series by Jerry Pournelle. Based on the reader reviews, if you’re a fan of MilSF, this is a book you won’t want to miss.
Finally - coming out on the 15th but available for preorder now, we have Tomorrow’s Hope, an anthology of stories and essays also from Three Ravens. The yin to the yang of their apocalypse anthology, this book “builds on the themes reminiscent of classic Science Fiction” and explores “worlds that could be just around the corner.” It includes stories from some amazing people, including Team member Charli Cox.
Last but not least, Camden Park Press has published Tidbits and Tinsel Tails: A Holiday Hijinks anthology. While they got it out in time for Christmas, it’s a timeless set of stories about pets and the holidays. Including a story from Team member T.C. Ross!
Stepping away from anthologies, let’s slide over to look at some single-author collections. If westerns in space float your electro-goat, you might want to take a look at The Old West, The New West, The Weird West: Twelve Stories Of The West by James L. Rickard.
Then there’s my own collection of flash fiction, One October Night. Each story inspired by an illustration from Dragon Award nominated illustrator Cedar Sanderson. I still get kind of giggly over this one.
On the novel side, Devon Eriksen has released Theft of Fire, a “shoot ‘em up space opera” from the reviews. If that’s your thing, Devon has a novel for you!
Getting back to cowboys (who doesn’t love cowboys, after all!) we have L.R. Smith’s Long Tall Stranger. This book is (literally) a labor of love, as it was edited by Regan Smith, but the story is her late brother-in-law’s.
Out today (Yay! Happy birthday to me!) we have Among the Gray Lords, Dave Butler’s latest installment in his Kish series about Indrajit and Fix. If you like classic sword and sorcery a la Fritz Leiber or Jack Vance, you’ll probably feel right at home with the Protagonists (yes, the capital letter there is significant!) in Kish.
We don’t have a pre-release link for it yet, but Foiled Ambitions from John M. Olsen is coming out January 9th.
That’s all for today, folks! Check out some of these amazing anthologies, collections, and novels from the folks at #TeamAndMore and start your new year off right!
