#TeamAndMore Tuesday
Charities & Contests
Yes, I know - it’s Wednesday. Pretend it’s Tuesday with me, or that you’re just getting around to this, will you? Great! Now let’s take a look at charity calls and upcoming contests…

Charity Calls
On the charity front, first up is a no-entry fee call for Rescuing Curiosity from WriteHive. Due date is October 31st. Stories donated to the anthology benefit WriteHive, who “… seeks to foster a safe, diverse community and provide free, inclusive events and resources for all writers, especially those from marginalized communities.”
Next we have Borne in the Blood, another no-fee entry call from Wolfsinger Publications. Due date is December 15th. Stories donated to the anthology benefit the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. Stories should focus on “… things that are carried in the blood. Be it magic, disease or something else – it must be Borne in the Blood.”
Contests
For the contests portion of today’s posts, I’m going to start by linking to Jerry Jenkin’s article, “Your Ultimate Guide to Writing Contests Through 2024”. He lists over two dozen short story writing contests, and that’s just the start. There are manuscript and poetry contests in there as well. Check it out!
Due October 31st, Sojourner Con’s Wanderlust Competition focuses on stories that explore the theme “freedom to travel”. This is a contest that coincides with the inaugural SojournerCon scheduled to take place June 14-17, 2024.
Chris Kennedy Publishing is holding their annual FantaSci Short Story Contest. This year, “The theme is Paladins of Valor, and your story must be a fantasy story that includes deeds of valor centered around paladins and chivalry, and the oaths that bind them.” Due November 30th, this is a pretty well-known competition, so polish up your story for this one - you’ll be up against some really talented writers.
The Hudson Review Short Story Contest runs through November 30th as well. The only guidelines? It’s “open to writers never before published in The Hudson Review.” Looking over their past winners, my only advice would be, “think literary”. If you’ve got a SF/Fantasy story, lean into Simak or Bradbury for inspiration.
All right! That’s it for this Tuesday morning. (We’re still all pretending that it’s Tuesday, right? Good!) If none of the above calls get your creative juices flowing, take a look at the open call list at #TeamAndMore and see if what you’re writing (you are writing, right?) fits any of the upcoming anthology open calls!

That paladin contest is tempting, Sam, but I’d rather get paid and retain rights over the IP for the long term, personally. 🤷♂️
