My mid-week report to you that covers the three major commitments I’ve made: to write, to edit, and to read.
Writing
I’ve been working on two projects. The first is a short story for the “Wyrd West” call from Raconteur Press. The other is a space opera novella. I’ve been bouncing back and forth between those two.
I also picked up a second review for One October Night. This one is from a friend of mine. Ethan’s not the kind of person to tell you pretty lies to make you feel better, though, so I very much appreciate his honest evaluation, and that he enjoyed the book!
Chatted with someone about possibly playing in their shared world. It’s the sort of thing I like, and I’ve got what I think might be an interesting premise. That’s going on the end of the long list, though I’d love to see if I could make it happen.
The MarsCon AAR is partially written. Because LOTS OF STUFF. In the meantime, you can wander off and read Spearman Burke’s AAR here.
Editing
I’ve put off editing the moggie noir story and the novel outline because of the aforementioned writing. Also because the moggie call doesn’t open until the end of March. Which is suddenly a lot closer than it seemed a week ago!
I spent some time using Bing Image Creator to come up with visual prompts for the Stories in the Key of Tull anthology call. This is less of a “help inspire people” thing, and more of a “see if I can attract some attention” thing. I’ve got a good selection of stories so far, but not as many as I’d hoped. Then again, what I hear from my friends at Raconteur is “Just you wait for the last day submissions are open!” so… I am still optimistic. Especially as a couple of pretty spiffy authors have made noises about sending me something.
Oh, you were wondering about flutes in space? Here you go: Ian Anderson on Earth and Cady Coleman in space, playing a bit of “Bourée”, one of my all time favorite Tull instrumentals.
Reading
Working my way through San Diego Lightfoot Sue and Other Stories by Tom Reamy. There’s a couple of stories in here (apart from the titular one) that seem eerily familiar. I’m guessing I must have run into them in another collection somewhere.
Other
The book giveaway should go live soon! It’s my first time with something like this, so we’ll see how well it does.
My wife and I have started in on an intermittent D&D campaign with some friends. Two completely new players, but even those of us who have gamed before aren’t totally familiar with 5e. I’ll be playing a human bard, and yes, he will be a Dad Bard. My wife is going to be a dwarf barbarian, and it looks like we will have an elven cleric, human paladin, and tiefling ranger in the mix as well.
The girls are back at college, so the house is unusually quiet and empty. That often means more writing time. Eventually. Right now, it means that the house is unusually quiet and empty. One of those ebbs and flows in life that you simply have to accept and adjust to, I suppose.
