My mid-week report to you that covers the three major commitments I’ve made: to write, to edit, and to read.
Writing
I’m continuing to work on the outline for An Understanding. I’ve already gone down a dead end or tow and said, “Nah, that’s not going to work.” Which means that I’ve avoided (potentially) hours - maybe even days! - of editing and rewriting by thinking things through ahead of time. So I’m kind of stoked about that.
An Understanding is going to be historical urban fantasy. This week, I realized that I’m going to have to pay close attention to a lot of details to make it work. Modern double-barrel shotgun in one scene? Nope! Shift to a pepperbox revolver. Wait… individual states had their own currencies until 1863? Oy! Yeah, I’m going to have to find a period expert to run my first draft by.
Editing
Nothing this week.
Reading
Mission to Methonē, then Annoyed with Lloyd and on to The Cunning Man. Yeah, same as last week. Not a whole lot of reading time recently.
Other
My aunt passed away this past Saturday. She was the best: both sassy and serious, with a streak of compassion a mile wide. I’ll be speaking at her memorial service later today.
Other than that… a little writing, not much else, and a lot of stress. The whole “identity theft” issue seems to have been successfully nipped in the bud, though, so there is that. Thankfully.

So sorry for your loss.
