My mid-week report to you that covers the three major commitments I’ve made: to write, to edit, and to read. A bit condensed, since my last update was Friday…

Writing
Not a whole lot, at least fiction-wise. I am working on a #TeamAndMore post about “Social Media 101 for Authors”. I’ve got a few projects to get back to, but right now, I am still struggling to get into a new routine with the girls gone.
Editing
I did a first round of edits on a non-fiction piece. This is a short autobiography that a friend is producing in relation to a non-profit.
This is an interesting project for a number of reasons. First is that while it’s non-fiction, it’s still telling a story… so a lot of what I have learned over the past years about story structure still applies. Hook the reader, inciting incident, turning point, resolution, etc. I found myself paying attention to a lot of the details that Alice Sudlow calls out in her editing podcast, Your Next Draft.
Second is that I’m doing this as a volunteer for the non-profit. So I can actually log my time with my employer, who then uses Benevity to match my hours on the project with a cash contribution. So they’re getting the benefit of my editing (for what that’s worth) and a bit of cash as well. Not bad at all!
Reading
Still in Dragonesque.
Other
Saturday was taken up by good friends. In the morning, we entertained some visitors from out-of-town; then in the evening, we got to go be the out-of-town visitors. :) Good times either way, but not conducive to writing.
I spent most of yesterday asleep. I was a bit worried that I might be getting what Shari had last week, but it looks like a day of rest was enough to shake it off.
I’m looking forward to P-Con later this week. I won’t be attending, unfortunately - but a lot of the Alpha Mercs will be! So we’re planning a combined in-person/virtual pow-wow this weekend to discuss some joint projects. More on that as things develop!

Sorry that pow wow never happened, but we had very different bedtimes and were making connections right and left. 🤷♂️
