My mid-week report to you that covers the three major commitments I’ve made: to write, to edit, and to read.

Writing
Sigils is done. Some stats for you…
Started: 24 April, 2018
Abandoned: 04 Jan 2019
Resurrected: 16 Jan 2023
Completed: 04 June 2023
Length: 128k words across 155 scenes and five different POVs
Writing Days: 177
Average Words/Day: 940
I did ~ 27k words in the past month. For the curious, that translates into about 12k words/gallon of coffee.
Oh, I also got “My My, Hey Hey” submitted for the 5 Second Rule anthology. That’s another 2k words on top of everything else. I ended up pretty happy with this one. If you have the urge to write a superhero story, they’ve extended the submission deadline to end of July.
I’m taking a break from writing. Well, break-ish. I’ve jotted down some notes on short stories. There’s a few upcoming anthologies I want to take a look at. At some point, I’m going to have to take the time and review the 50k or so words I’ve already got written for Runes and put together an outline.
What, did you think I was going to write just one book? ;-)
Commitments for this week are simple:
Take a break and breathe!
Editing
Did I mention that Sigils is done? :)
I did some light edits before shipping it off to my developmental editor. Basic stuff - no sense in pouring effort into something that I might cut or rewrite later, based on her recommendations.
The feedback I got on “My My, Hey Hey” was really worthwhile. Guys, seriously, get yourself a writer’s group. Even if it does mean you end up writing “I WILL NOT OVERUSE INFINITIVES” a thousand times on the blackboard, it’ll be worth it.
Speaking of writer’s groups - I’ve also got some reviews that I owe people, now that y own deadline is past. So I’ll be catching up on that.
Commitments for this week are simple:
Catch up on my promised critiques.
Reading
Oh, I have a stack. With LibertyCon coming up, there’s a ton of stuff I want to make sure I’ve read, because there’s a ton of stuff I want to be able to talk to people about when I’m there! At the head of the list, though, is the reward I promised myself for finishing Sigils:
Other
I’m really enjoying how #TeamAndMore is proceeding. Lots of open calls, and from what I can see, there are people who are paying attention to it and using it. Which is fantastic, and makes me haz a happy :) I like helping people, and this is a small way for me to make that happen.
Lots of work with People for Liberty this month as we focus and relaunch. More on that as time goes by. Youngest daughter’s HS graduation party is this weekend, so we’ve got a bunch of prep work there this week. After that, though, it’s summer fun!
… which means plotting, writing, organizing, doing a 1-year recap just before LibertyCon, getting business cards printed… AND MORE!
