My mid-week report to you that covers the three major commitments I’ve made: to write, to edit, and to read.
Writing, Editing, Reading
We’re in the home stretch now.
This past week? 8800 word, so I’m now at 112k for the manuscript as a whole. Half a dozen scenes down, another half dozen to go. I went BICHOK 6/7 days, thanks to a bad headache on Saturday. I think I can finish the novel and the short story on time. We’ll see.
Feedback from my alpha readers (the Secret Squirrels of the Apocalypse) are starting to flow in. I have never, ever, in my life, been so happy to hear people tell me that something is boring or confusing. Because they are also telling me what is amazing and exciting, and - as it turns out - that a big boost, especially when you’re frantically trying to get the last words down on a deadline.
Commitments for this week:
BICHOK. I need to go 7/7 this week.
Finish the first draft of Sigils
Continue collecting feedback from alpha readers
Complete that short story!
Other
Prepping some #TeamAndMore business cards to hand out at cons. My youngest’s graduation is… tomorrow! Man. That is nuts. So we’ll be entering into graduation party season this weekend. Meanwhile, my middle daughter is home from college and has started her summer job at a personal care home.
As for my non-profit work: the ladies tea was a tremendous success! We had about 70 people there, and raised close to $9k for the pregnancy center. Even better, for me, was the fact that our board was terribly impressed by my friend Jackie, who put on the tea, and asked her if she would be willing to consider doing others for them in the future. That makes me happy :)
Meanwhile, I’m working on a rather big event with the folks at Home For Liberty. We’re one of the sponsors for FreedomFest in Memphis, TN this coming July - and we’re working on doing a couple of special events there to showcase some of the work we’ve been doing. More as that develops and I can make an announcement!
Summary? Life is busy, but it’s a good kind of busy. So long as I can make my deadlines, that is!

Awesome, Sam! And congrats to your youngest! 👏
