My mid-week report to you that covers the three major commitments I’ve made: to write, to edit, and to read.
Writing, Editing, Reading
I’ve combined those three this week “Because Reasons”, as my friend Chap would say. Before we get to said reasons, though: BEHOLD! The cover reveal for Space Cowboys 2: Electric Boogaloo Rodeo from Raconteur Press.
I’m excited to see this one come out. I’m a proud member of Team And More here. I’ve got me a patch and everything, I do! I am also hoping to hear back from a couple of other publishers as well about a few other stories roaming out there in the wild.
… aaaaand that’s about all I’ve got this week.
On the minus side, I’ve made no real novel progress. I’ve done no work on short stories, no editing, and no critiques. Haven’t even done any real reading. Didn’t even manage to get a snippet up for Friday this past week. I’m very comfortably ahead of my editing schedule, so I’m not too worried, but I can’t let this continue.
On the plus side? I wrote up a post about how Florida Sen. Jason Brodeur is an idiot. I attended a virtual class on visual story structure. Oh, and I also spoke with a friend about helping him copyedit a non-fiction book he’s got in the pipeline.
That’s about it, though, because of…
Other
The Day Job. As it turns out, the “little bit of added stress” I mentioned last week hit me pretty hard, all things considered. Layer on some additional extracurricular stress, let simmer, and you have a pretty horrible recipe. This all left me more anxious and worried than I have really ever been for decades.
I mean, I still have a job. I’m just not quite sure what my new role is. I had a chat with my manager Monday, though, and we agreed that if by this point nobody’s told us what we should be doing, then I’m pretty much free to do whatever I want (within reason! :) So I’m trying to wrap up the project I was working on before all this happened. Or at least get it into a state where I can hand it off to someone else.
I’d really like to make sure that happens. It’s a cross-product enhancement that I’ve advocated for, and I’d like to see it used. Largely because I think it makes a lot of sense, and I’ve put quite a bit of effort into it. However, cramming a couple of months’ worth of effort into a week or two has left me rather busy. In what free time I’ve had, I’ve spent more time fretting than writing.
So my commitment this week is: enough is enough. I’ve had a rough week. Boo! I’ve gotten some work done on Work Stuff. Yay! Now it’s time to get back in the saddle and get back to writing, editing, and reading.
