I accidentally shaved my beard yesterday.
I have a pair of clippers I use just for that. Keep a #2 guard on there for just that purpose. Unfortunately, when I pulled them out yesterday, I was vaguely distracted (I mean, theologically speaking, can a succubus even try to work her way to heaven by acting as a psychopomp for the grieving?) so I didn't notice the lack of guard.
Not at first.
Two swipes later, with half my beard reduced to stubble, the back part of main brain said, "Hold up. Is it getting kind of breezy in here, or is it just me?"
🤬
I evened it out. I now know what a poodle feels like when it comes home from the groomer, though.
I asked my wife if she'd used my clippers. It took her a while to answer—gasping for breath while doubled over with laughter will do that to you—but yes, she was the culprit. She was getting her legs prepped for spring, and decided to try my clippers instead shaving.
It apparently works well, for you ladies in the audience. Or men. I don't judge.
Anyways, that's how my morning started yesterday. The remainder of the day was all sunshine and roses, comparatively, so I suppose I should be thankful.
The Business of Writing
I’ve been editing, editing, editing. Which sounds like a lot, but really, it’s not. I’ve been slacking. The nice days have encouraged my walking, while the cool evenings have conspired to make me lazy. It’s either that, or I’ve gotten through all the easy bits (“repeated word here”) and into the harder bits (“what does this mean?”). Nobody likes the harder bits. I really just need to buckle down and do them. Oh, and write a couple of extra chapters.
I told you they were they hard bits.
I’ve been taking some time to write a bit about the TV shows, movies, music, books and comics that have influenced me over the years. You might find them amusing or interesting. I post them as Notes here on Substack, but you can also find them on my facebook Facebook page, my Instagram feed, on The Social Media Site Formerly Known as Twitter, some place called Bluesky, and even over on LinkedIn if that’s what inflates your ungulate.
This weekend is the annual lady’s conference at our church. My wife will be attending, and I will be working with a team of guys, serving as a barista at the coffee bar they set up in the lobby. It’s a lot of work, but a lot of fun as well. I’ve got a meeting with my writer’s group somewhere in the middle of the day that I will need to dip out for, but aside from that, I’ll be slinging coffee pretty much all day. It’s actually a good time of fellowship with the other guys, one that I look forward to every year.

Work has been work. I am solving problems there, which makes me feel happy. Then I go for a walk, which makes me feel even happier. I hope that you’re solving problems and enjoying the nice weather. Or pouring coffee. Whatever makes you happy. I don’t judge. :)

What were we saying about veterans and beards, Sam? 😁 At least you weren't dry shaved.
I'm glad that you're moving forward on your writing and RL and community projects. Thanks for sharing, and see you Saturday. 😁
